Every new year I like to make an appointment and "journal" calendar from favorite photos taken over the past 12 months. This year they're all from FernWood where I live. Besides the usual holidays, it has personal dates to remember and extra pages in between of muted images that I can write over with journal entries for each month. It hasn't stopped me from creating mounds of small paper bits with notes everywhere, but it has helped me put important reminders where I can actually find them.
